CoolSculpting works through a process called cryolipolysis. The procedure cools and freezes fat cells, which effectively kills them. The body then flushes these dead cells away, meaning the fat has been permanently removed.
Studies Show CoolSculpting is Effective
A 2009 NYU study showed that cryolipolysis technology was effective in permanently removing fat deposits. In this study, ten subjects received treatment with a cryolipolysis device such as CoolSculpting. The study concluded that at two months after treatment, 20.4% of the fat layer was reduced and at six months, 25.5% was reduced.
Where Can CoolSculpting Reduce Fat?
Patients typically choose to treat the thighs or abdomen with CoolSculpting. However, it may also be useful in other parts of the body, such as the arms, hips, or even under the chin. CoolSculpting is FDA cleared to effectively treat nine different areas of the body. The most common are the abdomen and hip (“love handle”) areas.
Is There a Recovery Period After CoolSculpting?
There is generally no recovery time after receiving CoolSculpting services. You can return to normal activities and work immediately after receiving treatment if you choose. Sometimes, patients experience minor redness, soreness, or bruising after receiving the treatment, but these subside quickly.
