What to Know About MOXI and BBL By Sciton

Lasers make up a huge part of the cosmetic rejuvenation industry. Each year, they grow in popularity among patients and providers alike for their stunning results and incredible versatility. Lasers can accomplish a wide range of treatment outcomes such as laser hair removal, scar treatment, spider vein treatment, and much more. Of course, lasers are also widely popular for their skin rejuvenation abilities, too. At Fargo Center for Dermatology, we offer one of the widest selections of lasers available in the greater Fargo area. Our newest and most exciting addition is Sciton’s BBL Hero and MOXI, two of the newest and most popular options on the market. Here’s what to know about these two treatments and how they can work together to transform your skin.

What Are Sciton BBL and MOXI?

Sciton is the number one manufacturer of cosmetic lasers, and MOXI and BBL Hero are two of Sciton’s most advanced treatments yet. Together, they form Sciton’s mJOULE platform which allows us to personalize your treatment using both options within the same session. Both options use state-of-the-art laser technology to rejuvenate the skin, albeit in slightly different ways.

What’s the Difference Between BBL Hero and MOXI?

Both BBL and MOXI are non-ablative lasers, meaning they don’t damage or ablate the skin. However, they have some key differences:

  • MOXI is a fractional laser that creates small therapeutic areas in the skin using laser energy, prompting the skin to generate new collagen.
  • BBL, or broad-band light, is an advanced form of intense pulsed light (IPL) technology. It creates gentle heat in the skin and targets areas of pigmentation.

In short, BBL Hero and MOXI are very similar but have slight differences. For example, MOXI functions at a much gentler wavelength, meaning its downtime is drastically reduced. Although BBL Hero is slightly more aggressive, it can be more effective than MOXI for some concerns.

What Can BBL Hero Treat?

BBL Hero is primarily used for pigmentation and more moderate, set-in concerns. These include:

  • Freckles, sun spots, and age spots
  • Facial veins, vascular lesions, and rosacea
  • Active acne
  • Pigmentation
  • Sagging, loose skin
  • Sun damage

What Can MOXI Treat?

MOXI is an excellent prejuvenation laser that can help maintain clear, smooth skin. It’s ideal for the following surface-level concerns:

  • Texture
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Minor skin laxity and wrinkles
  • Mild sun damage
  • Pigmentation issues (such as melasma)

Can You Use BBL Hero and MOXI Together?

Absolutely! The unique properties of both BBL Hero and MOXI mean they can be used together to treat your skin more fully. While MOXI treats surface concerns like texture and mild sun damage, BBL Hero can treat deeper concerns such as fine lines and wrinkles or scars. Because both options are non-ablative, you can get transformative results like you would get with harsher laser technologies, but with minimal downtime.
