PRF Treatment and Benefits

You may have heard of PRP (platelet-rich plasma), but what’s PRF? The unique treatment uses your own blood to rejuvenate your skin and address a variety of signs of aging. If you’re looking to turn back the clock and look as young as you feel, PRF treatment may be the perfect option for you.

What is Platelet-Rich Fibrin?

PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin, a concentrated mixture of cells and growth factors that are separated from your own blood. Besides growth factors, the mixture consists of white blood cells, platelets, fibrin, and stem cells, all of which help with healing and rejuvenation. It’s because of those ingredients that PRF is so vital to skin rejuvenation and other aesthetic needs. It’s typically used as a liquid applied topically or as an injectable gel.

What Can PRF Address?

PRF can help with many different skin issues, including the following:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Under eye hollowing
  • Sagging skin
  • Skin texture concerns
  • Hair loss

When compared to PRP, PRF provides just as many benefits with the added advantage of improving the skin’s texture and appearance for several weeks after treatment.

PRF Benefits

It cannot be overstated just how effective PRF can be. The benefits of the innovative treatment include:

  • Natural way to treat visible signs of aging
  • Heals acne scars
  • Helps with hair loss
  • Allergic reactions are never an issue
  • Speeds up the healing process
  • Does not have the side effects that often come with surgery or Botox
  • No downtime
  • Minimally invasive and non-surgical

PRF Treatment

PRF treatment is relatively simple. It will start with a consultation with Dr. Ness to ensure you’re a good candidate for PRF treatment. If PRF is right for you, treatment will begin with blood being drawn from your arm. The blood will then be placed in a centrifuge to separate the fibrin and platelets from the rest of the blood.

Next, Dr. Ness will use a fine needle to inject the platelet-rich fibrin into specific areas of your face. The PRF can also be applied directly to the face like a serum. The whole process won’t take longer than an hour.

As for the results, it will take up to six months before you see the full effects of the PRF treatment.

After treatment, you may see some redness or swelling (especially if you have injections), but those will subside in a few hours. You can immediately return to your normal routine, but you’ll want to avoid touching your face and taking anti-inflammatory medications.

A series of PRF treatments is usually recommended to achieve the best results, and then you’ll need 1-2 maintenance treatments to keep up your results.
