Swift® Microwave Therapy
in Fargo, North Dakota
Viral skin conditions such as warts and molluscum contagiosum can be frustrating, persistent, and difficult to treat. Swift® Microwave Therapy is a modern, clinically proven approach that works differently from traditional treatments. By using targeted microwave energy, Swift Microwave Therapy addresses the underlying viral cause, rather than simply treating the surface of the skin. At Fargo Dermatology, we are the only office in North Dakota that offers this unique and highly-effective treatment.
Dr Ness always make me feel that she is focused on my needs and issues, providing knowledgeable recommendations or treatments.
What Is Swift® Microwave Therapy?
Swift® Microwave Therapy is a medical treatment used to help manage certain viral skin conditions, including warts (including plantar warts), and molluscum contagiosum. The treatment uses controlled microwave energy applied directly to the affected skin. This energy works differently from traditional treatments by stimulating the body’s natural immune response and creating conditions that make it more difficult for viruses or fungi to survive. By addressing the underlying cause of the condition rather than only the surface of the skin, the condition may gradually resolve over time.
What Happens During Treatment?
During treatment, a clinician applies the Swift® device directly to the affected area of skin. Each treatment application lasts only a few seconds. Most patients require more than one treatment session, typically spaced several weeks apart, depending on the severity of the condition and how the body responds to therapy. Local anesthesia is not usually required, although it may be offered if needed to improve comfort. Patients may experience heat or discomfort during or shortly after the treatment.
What Are the Possible Benefits?
Possible benefits of Swift® Microwave Therapy include the reduction of warts and molluscum lesions, as well as improvement in the appearance and overall health of the affected skin. The treatment also does not involve cutting, injections, surgical procedures, or oral medications.
Most patients experience little to no downtime and are able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment. Results vary from person to person.

Who May Be a Candidate?
Swift® Microwave Therapy may be an option for individuals with persistent, painful, or recurrent warts or molluscum contagiosum, particularly when these conditions have not responded to other forms of treatment. Candidacy for this therapy is determined by a healthcare provider based on the patient’s medical history, symptoms, and overall health.
What Are the Possible Risks or Side Effects?
As with all medical treatments, Swift® Microwave Therapy may cause side effects. These may include discomfort during or after treatment, redness, warmth, swelling, tenderness, blistering, scabbing, changes in skin color, and delayed healing. In rare cases, infection, scarring, lack of improvement, or recurrence of the wart, molluscum lesion may occur.
What to Expect After Treatment
After treatment, most patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately. Some soreness, warmth, or tenderness in the treated area is common and usually temporary. Over the following weeks, as the immune system responds to the therapy, the wart or molluscum lesion may gradually shrink and resolve.
Patients should follow all post-treatment care and hygiene instructions provided by our team and contact our office if they experience increasing pain, signs of infection such as redness, warmth, swelling, or drainage, or any unexpected or concerning symptoms.
