PRP Injections

What is PRP?

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is utilized in several treatments to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and growth. During treatment, platelet-rich plasma will be collected from the patient via a blood draw to accelerate healing and significantly increase collagen production in the desired areas. The PRP can be injected and/or applied topically to the skin.

What can PRP Treat?

PRP is utilized across a variety of medical and surgical specialties to treat injuries and heal wounds or surgical incisions. However, the therapy has cosmetic uses as well. The healing effects of PRP Injections can improve the skins’ appearance and can be used for facial rejuvenation. The treatment can lead to improved volume, tone, and texture as well as decreased appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

PRP Injections can also be used to treat hair loss for men and women of all ages. The growth stimulation of platelet-rich plasma can lead to hair regrowth if a patient is suffering from androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness).

How does PRP Work?

During a PRP treatment, blood is obtained from the patient through a blood draw. The blood is processed through a centrifuge, concentrating the platelets (the clotting, healing blood cells) within the plasma (the liquid portion of the blood). The nutrient-rich PRP is then injected into the treatment area to allow the body’s self-healing process to begin.

Which Treatments Complement PRP Treatments and PRP Injections?

PRP treatment can complement other facial rejuvenation treatments such as microneedling, as both treatments help to stimulate the body’s natural healing process to reveal younger-looking and brighter skin.

PRP Maintenance Treatments

Following PRP treatments, most patients experience some redness and swelling. Symptoms such as bruising, itching, or soreness are also possible, but rare. It is best to avoid taking any anti-inflammatory medications, such as ibuprofen or aspirin, as the inflammation that follows these treatments is beneficial for the best results. In addition, we ask that you avoid touching the treated area for at least eight hours following your treatment.

For best results for both hair restoration and facial rejuvenation, a series of PRP treatments are recommended. Your provider will help to determine how many treatments are needed when developing your customized treatment plan. Following the treatment series to either the scalp or to the face/neck, maintenance treatments are recommended at least one to two times per year to help provide lasting results.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) Injections FAQs

What is PRP therapy and how does it work for hair restoration?

PRP therapy involves injecting concentrated platelets from your blood into the scalp to stimulate hair growth and improve hair density.

How many PRP sessions are typically needed to see results?

Most patients need 3-4 PRP sessions spaced a few weeks apart to see noticeable improvement in hair growth.

Are there any side effects associated with PRP injections?

PRP injections are generally safe, with mild side effects like redness, swelling, or temporary discomfort at the injection site.

What are PRP injections and how do they work?

PRP injections, also known as platelet-rich plasma therapy, use a small sample of your own blood that is processed to concentrate the platelets and growth factors. These healing components are then injected into targeted areas such as the face, scalp, or joints to stimulate collagen production, improve skin texture, or encourage natural hair growth.

What conditions can PRP injections treat?

At Fargo Center for Dermatology, PRP injections are commonly used for cosmetic rejuvenation and hair restoration. Patients seek PRP therapy to smooth fine lines, improve skin tone, treat acne scars, and restore thinning hair. Because it uses your own platelets, PRP is a natural solution for overall skin and hair revitalization.

Are PRP injections painful?

Most patients experience only mild discomfort during PRP treatment. A topical numbing cream is applied to keep the process comfortable. You may notice temporary redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site, but these effects usually fade within a few days.

How many PRP sessions will I need for best results?

The number of PRP treatments depends on your goals. For facial rejuvenation, most patients see optimal results after 3 sessions spaced about 4–6 weeks apart. For hair restoration, 3–4 initial treatments are often recommended, followed by maintenance sessions once or twice a year.

How soon will I see results from PRP therapy?

Results vary, but many patients notice improvements in skin tone, texture, and radiance within 4–8 weeks after treatment. For PRP hair restoration, visible thickening and new growth usually appear after several sessions. Continued improvement occurs as collagen production and cellular repair progress over time.

Are there risks or side effects with PRP injections?

Because PRP uses your own blood, the risk of allergic reaction is extremely low. Mild side effects such as redness, bruising, or swelling are normal and temporary. Infection or complications are rare when the procedure is performed by a trained medical provider.

Who is a good candidate for PRP injections?

Ideal candidates for PRP therapy are generally healthy adults who want to improve early signs of aging, reduce acne scars, or restore thinning hair. Patients who smoke heavily, take blood thinners, or have certain medical conditions may not be suitable candidates. A consultation is recommended to determine eligibility.

What should I expect after PRP treatment?

Downtime after PRP injections is minimal. You may experience slight redness or swelling, but most people return to work and daily activities the same day. It is important to avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun exposure, and anti-inflammatory medications for the first 24–48 hours so your body’s natural healing response can work effectively.

How much do PRP injections cost in Fargo?

The cost of PRP treatment depends on the number of sessions and the area being treated, such as the face, neck, or scalp. Since every patient has unique goals, pricing is provided during your consultation at Fargo Center for Dermatology. Package options may be available for patients planning multiple sessions.

Can PRP injections be combined with other cosmetic treatments?

Yes. Many patients combine PRP with microneedling, dermal fillers, or laser treatments to maximize results. For example, PRP with microneedling enhances skin rejuvenation, while PRP with hair treatments improves scalp health and growth outcomes. Your provider will recommend the best combination plan for your needs.
