Pinpoint bleeding is to be anticipated during Microneedling treatments, but typically resolves by the end of the treatment. On-going bleeding after microneedling is rare.

Keeping your skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer, and drinking plenty of water can help decrease the side effects of microneedling.

Avoid exfoliating 3-5 days prior to the treatment including discontinuing use of retinoids. Drinking plenty of water can help with tight/dry skin that occurs following microneedling treatments. The patient will also want to prophylactically take prescription Valtrex, if there is a history of cold sores.

Avoid use of any topical products, other than a water-based serum given by your provider, including exfoliating products after SkinPen microneedling for at least 1-2 weeks. We recommend a gentle cleanser, moisturizer and strict sun protection after your treatment.

Redness typically lasts about 1-2 days for most patients, but for some patients redness can take up to 3-5 days to completely resolve.

A water-based gel or serum may be used during the SkinPen treatment to provide slip to the skin and help decrease dryness to the skin. Another commonly used product is sterile saline during the treatment.
